To prepare for discharge

Before discharge

• If medication or health care equipment were prescribed during consultation
with the surgeon or anesthetist, plan to buy in advance.

Why? Having medication at home allows treating the child immediately,
regardless of the time of hospital discharge (especially anti-pain treatments).

Day of discharge

Legal
• If the child is a minor, mandatory presence or or representative
of one of the parents or legal representative.
• Avoid coming with brothers and sister so you can be
available for the child who has undergone surgery.

• When hospital discharge is the same day as the operation

If returning home by car, plan 2 adults:
1 next to the child and 1 driver
(mandatory if the child is under 10 years,
advised in all cases).

! It is strongly recommended not to take public transport
with a child who just had surgery.

The evening and night following discharge

• Plan the presence of an adult able to communicate
by phone with the emergency services
in case of complications.

Why? For the safety of the child.
